Palm is working to steadily improve its Pre and Pixi smartphones with the release of WebOS 1.3.1. The free update weighs in at 126MB and brings with it dozenpalm pre pixis of tiny tweaks that improve the Palm experience. But if you were waiting for the resurrection of the Palm iTunes sync, you’re out of luck: WebOS 1.3.1 does no such thing. Perhaps Palm decided to blink in the back-and-forth with Apple.

The biggest updates center on Yahoo! services, including contact and calendar sync, and Yahoo! IM messenger. You can now also forward, copy text, and delete IMs and text messages by simply tapping on a menu. YouTube videos natively found on the mobile Web will now open in the dedicated YouTube app, and widescreen videos fill the handset rather than getting cropped.

palmWhile no new applications are birthed from WebOS 1.3.1, Palm exhaustively updated features and fixed bugs.

When it comes to security, Palm stated only, “This release addresses several security issues with Palm WebOS software.” Um, which ones? Palm then encourages users to report security problems on its Web site.

A complete list of updates can be found on Palm’s Web site.
